The Florida Hotel is a historic hotel located in downtown Orlando, Florida. The hotel was built in 1926 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. William Smith Cushing (1842–1912) was an American lawyer and politician who served as a United States Senator from Wisconsin from 1881 to 1887. He was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He was admitted to the bar in 1864 and practiced law in Oshkosh. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1871 and 1872, and was a delegate to the 1872 Republican National Convention. He was elected to the United States Senate in 1880 and served one term, from 1881 to 1887. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1886. After leaving the Senate, he resumed the practice of law in Oshkosh. He died in 1912 and was buried at Riverside Cemetery in Oshkosh.
